The case is launched by a team jointly composed of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Fengxian County People's Government,Rural Affair and Agriculture Bureau of Fengxian County,Burdock Breeding Base in Fengxian County,Nature & Science Consulting Co. Ltd,etc. The case has been listed as a case of the "Geographical Indications Environment & Sustainability " (Case 4).
Burdock, also known as Dalizi, is a biennial herbaceous plant of the family Asteraceae in the order Platycodon, native to China. The edible meat has thick straight roots, reaching 700-150 centimeters in length and a diameter of 2-4 centimeters, with a light yellow brown skin. According to the Fengxian County Annals, the earliest wild burdock in Fengxian County was mainly used for leaves, as feed for livestock or as medicinal materials. In 1989, burdock was first introduced from Japan for vegetable cultivation, and it has now formed a scale, with an annual planting area of 50000 acres and an annual output of about 150000 tons. It has successively won the "Hometown of Burdock in China" recognized by the National Food and Drug Homologous Industry Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, "Fengxian Burdock" has won the certification trademark of geographical indications in China and the registration and protection of geographical indications of agricultural products in China, and "Fengxian Burdock Ancient Yellow River Flood Area Case" has won the Chinese Academy of Sciences "Geographical Indications Environment & Sustainability " case and other honorary titles.
Feng County belongs to the Yellow River alluvial plain, with a high and flat terrain. The rivers within the county were originally natural rivers, but after the introduction of the Yangtze River water, a large sand river belt reservoir was formed. Located in a warm temperate semi humid monsoon climate zone, with distinct four seasons and sufficient sunshine, the annual average temperature is around 15 ℃, the annual average precipitation is about 630.4 millimeters, and the frost free period is about 210 days. The land is fertile, with abundant resources, sandy soil, and good air permeability, making it very suitable for the growth of rhizome vegetables. Fengxian County has a land area of 1.901 million mu, a water area of 280000 mu, a arable land area of 857000 hectares, a garden area of 309500 hectares, and a vegetable area of 408200 hectares, enjoying the reputation of "abundant crops can reach the three provinces".
Burdock belongs to a type of medicinal and edible homology. Burdock roots contain inulin, volatile oil, burdock acid, various polyphenols, aldehydes, and are rich in cellulose and amino acids. Enjoying the reputation of "the ginseng of the East" and "the king of vegetables". Based on the mechanism of medicinal and edible homology, Fengxian has successively developed and launched more than 80 "Fengxian Burdock" series products, including burdock tea, burdock enzyme, burdock sauce, burdock beverage, burdock wine, and burdock food; We have developed a series of burdock dishes such as secret burdock and osmanthus burdock, which are highly favored by consumers.
Feng County has more than 30 burdock processing and sales enterprises, with a cold storage capacity of 280000 tons and an annual sales revenue of 2 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of China's burdock processing and export quantity. We have established a HACCP food safety traceability control management system, achieving full quality control of exported products from the source to the product, making "Fengxian Burdock the best in the world" renowned both domestically and internationally.
"Geographical Indications Environment & Sustainability " is a science and technology support action plan sponsored by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, led by the Chinese Geographical Society, jointly promoted by the United Nations Consultative Information and Communication Technology Special Committee of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the Institute of Geographic Science and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the World Data Center for Global Change Science Research and other units. Its purpose is to integrate basic sciences such as geography, resources, and ecology, as well as information and communication technologies such as geographic information systems, remote sensing and Earth observation, big data and the Internet of Things, with open science as the basic principle, to promote rural revitalization and regional sustainable development.
