The delegation from the IGSNRR-CAS visited EU Headquarters Department of Agriculture and communicate on GIES

On the afternoon of May 31, a delegation from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR-CAS) was invited to visit the EU General Department of Agriculture and had exchanges with Ms. Raimondo Serra, Deputy Representative of the EU General Department of Agriculture for Asia Pacific Affairs, and Mr. Georges Henry Carrard, China Affairs Officer of the EU General Department of Agriculture.

Researcher Liu Chuang introduced in detail that in order to promote the implementation of the China EU Agreement on Geographical Indications, the IGSNRR-CAS, the Geographical Society of China and other units jointly implemented the 2021-2030 ten year action plan of the “Geographical Indications, Environment & Sustainability” (GIES), and developed the GIES toolkit using open science, big data, and the Internet of Things technology, which is used to trace the origin of geographical indication products, open and share information, and build a reliable scientific and technological bridge between producers and consumers. Professor Philippe De Maeyer from Ghent University introduced the progress of cooperation between Ghent University and China, and pointed out that promoting the implementation of the China Europe Geographical Indication Agreement is one of the contents of the cooperation between the two sides. The EU General Office has given high praise to the work of the China Europe scientific and technological community in promoting the China Europe Geographical Indication Agreement, and stated that the methods and technologies of GIES are worth applying and promoting in the implementation process of the China Europe Geographical Indication Agreement.
