The delegation from the IGSNRR-CAS visited Belgium and reached consensus on cooperation in the field of education and GIES

On May 31, the delegation of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR-CAS) and the academic seminar of Ghent University in Belgium were held in Ghent University. Professor Isabel Van Driessche, Dean of the School of Sciences at Ghent University, Mr. Andries Verspeeten, Director of International Cooperation, Professor Philippe De Maeyer, Professor of Geography and Fellow of the Belgian Academy of Sciences, Professor Peter Goethals, Department of Animal and Water Ecology at the School of Biological Science and Engineering, as well as Professor Haosheng Huang, Amaury Frankl, Kwinen Van Weverberg, Alain De Wulf, Veerle Van Eetvelde, Maite Dewinter, Marc De Batist, and postdoctoral and doctoral students from the Department of Geography, attended the conference. In the past decade, Ghent University has been expanding its number of students from China year by year. In 2023, there were 888 Chinese international students, accounting for two-thirds of the total international students in the university.

Professor Philippe De Maeyer has been serving as the Deputy Editor in Chief of the Journal of Global Change Data &Discovery and the Digital Journal of Global Change Data Repository since 2023, and co chairs the GIES Task Force of the International Data Committee with Liu Chuang and others. Wang Shenglin, Deputy Director of the IGSNRR-CAS, and Professor Philippe De Maeyer of Ghent University had extensive exchanges with each other in the field of international mapping, GIS artificial intelligence, global change and sustainable development, especially in the field of the "Geographical Indications Environment & Sustainability "(GIES). Both parties agree to further develop scientific and technological cooperation in the areas of geographical indication products and habitat standards, information sharing, and artificial intelligence applications within the framework of the China Europe Geographical Indication Agreement.
