In order to implement the Data Sharing Principles in Developing Countries, the CODATA-PASTD (Task Group on Preservation of and Open Access to S&T Data in/for/with Developing Countries, the Committee on Data for Science and Technology), IGU (International Geographical Union) and IGSNRR/CAS (Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences) jointly co-sponsored the International Training workshop on Big Data for Science & Sustainability in Developing Countries from March 17-19, 2017 in Osmania University Hyderabad, India. The Osmania University hosted the event. 56 young scholars from 13 universities in India attended the 3-days training workshop.

Prof. Zhu, Yunqiang of IGSNRR/CAS, Co-Chair of Capacity Building Sub-Group of the CODATA- PASTD and Associate Chief Editor of the Global Change Research Data Publishing and Repository (GCdataPR) and Prof. R. B. Singh of University of Delhi, Indian and Vice president of IGU co-chaired the training workshop. Experts from China, Japan and Indian provided the lectures and hands on training practices on big data driven science, data sharing principles, data mining and discovery, data publishing, geospatial data interoperability, and India earth observation plan, geospatial data infrastructure, earth observation plan and national geospatial data sharing policy of Indian, etc.

The trainers included Prof. Zhu, Yunqiang, Dr. Song, Jia, and Wang, Xiaoxuan., Engineer from IGSNRR/CAS, Associate Professor Xie, Yong, and Dr. Yang, Banghui from Institute of Remote sensing and Digital Earth, CAS, and Dr. V. Raghavaswamy, Associate Director of India National Remote Sensing Centre, Prof. Lyyanki. V. Murali Krishan, Dean of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Indian and Emeritus Professor Yukio Himiyama of Hokkaido University, Japan and President of IGU.

The workshop is one of the major activities of the CODATA-PASTD in 2017. Prof. Zhou, Xiang, Co-Chair of the CODATA PASTD and Prof. Liu, Chuang, Co-Chair of Data Publishing Sub-group and Founder of this task group respectively made the careful and rigorous organization for the workshop. The trainees and the host university expressed that the international training workshop was productive and very helpful for the new generation in the big data era in developing countries.
