Prof. Li, Guoqing was Honored the GEO Individual Excellence Award 2021

Prof. Li, Guoqing, Associate Chief Editor of the Digital Journal of Global Change Data Repository and Director of the National Earth Observation Data Center, Professor of Institute of Aerospace Information Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was honored the GEO Individual Excellent Award 2021 on November 26, 2021.

Prof. Li has been engaged in GEO data sharing activities and inferred remote sensing applications for a long time. He was the leading scientist to establish the National Earth Observation Science Data Center. He is now serving as member of China GEO Scientific Committee, co-chair of AOGEO (GEO in Asia and Pacific Region) Data Sharing Task Group. He has been working on promoting GEO data sharing, and application for more than 20 years. He is the leader in operation of China’s National Integrated Earth Observation Data Sharing Platform, and contributor for the international rescue of nearly 30 major disaster data emergency responses carried out by China’s GEO.

Prof. Li is an excellent expert who promotes international cooperation. He has worked internationally with the European Space Agency (ESA/ESRIN), George Mason University (GMU), Purdue University (Purdue), Space Research Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (NASU), University of Salzburg, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), the National Institute for Environment Studies (NIES), and the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN).

GEO, established in February 2005, is the largest and most authoritative intergovernmental international organization in earth observation. The GEO Excellence Individual Award was proposed by the GEO Project Management Committee in 2019. Every year, 3–4 individuals with outstanding devotion and dedication to GEO Mission are selected to recognize their exceptional personal contributions to the international community through earth observation.
