Abstract:

The Qixinggang Relics of ancient coast was first discovered in the Pearl River (Zhujiang) Estuary and Delta area by Wu Shangshi in 1937. Then it was listed as city-level key historical relic by Guangzhou government in 1956 and monument was set up there by Guangdong Geographical Society in 1983. The scientific park of Qixinggang relics of ancient coast and the museum is being built since 2015, while the first stage project has been commissioned and sculpture of Wu Shangshi has been unveiled. The author collected the past photos of Qixinggang relics of ancient coast and took photos on the sea cliff, sea cave and erosion platform at Dahu Island, Humen, Guangzhou. The Qixinggang relics of ancient coast supports the existence of Pearl River Delta and provides evidences in kind for the record of the evolution of the Pearl River Estuary in Chinese ancient books, while playing a major role in teaching practice, scientific research, public knowledge popularization and social-culture education in past decades. The dataset includes: (1) Geo-locations of the Qixinggang relics of ancient coast and Dahu Island coast erosion; (2) Photos of the Qixinggang relics of ancient coast in the past; (3) Photos of coast erosion landforms at Dahu Island, Human, Guangzhou. The dataset was archived in .kmz, .shp and .jpg data formats with data size of 447 KB in 13 data files (Compressed to 2 data files with data size of 420 KB). The analysis paper based on the dataset was published at the journal of Tropical Geography, Vol. 37, No. 4, 2017.
