Abstract:

The authors developed a yearly dataset of the Grassland Degradation Degree Index (GDI) in the arid and semi-arid region of Northwest China. This index was derived by comparing the actual primary productivity of grassland (MODIS-NPP) with the natural baseline values. The dataset includes: (1) annual spatial GDI with 500-m resolution from 2001 to 2023; (2) annual average GDI from 2001 to 2023. The GDI has a value range of 0-100. A higher value indicates a higher degree of grassland degradation. The dataset is archived in .tif and .xlsx formats, and consists of 117 data files with a data size of 270 MB (compressed into one file with 228 MB).
