Abstract:

Huinan County is located at western foot of the Changbai Mountains, characterized by a hilly and low mountainous landscape of northern temperature monsoon climate and black land zone. The case area is a core cultivation region for rice grown on Changbai volcanic ash black land, the case area covers 2,275 km&sup 2. It administers 3 sub-districts, 10 towns, 1 township, and 143 administrative villages, with a population of approximately 320,000. Rice cultivation in Huinan originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, with farming techniques introduced by the Korean ethnic group, and has gradually developed thereafter. The annual average temperature of 10 ℃, annual average precipitation of 746 mm, and annual average relative humidity of 71.55%. Surface soil samples were collected and analyzed: soil pH ranged from 5.48 to 6.26; total nitrogen content was 1.27-3.12 g/kg; total phosphorus content was 0.61-1.45 g/kg; total potassium content was 17.00-21.59 g/kg. Meanwhile, the soils are abundant in trace elements, including iron at 30,410-63,584 mg/kg, manganese at 317-1,423 mg/kg, and zinc at 72.7-125 mg/kg. Concentrations of heavy metals in the soil are below the limits specified in the national standard (GB 15618—2018). In addition, the distinctive mountain spring water in the region is also rich in various trace elements. Comparative analysis of trace elements in rice grains shows that the locally bred Hongke rice series contains more beneficial trace elements than varieties from other regions, with generally high contents of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium—specifically, calcium at approximately 73.6 mg/kg, phosphorus at about 890 mg/kg, and magnesium at around 210 mg/kg. This reflects the mineral enrichment effect inherent in volcanic ash-derived soils. Furthermore, trace elements such as zinc, manganese, iron, and selenium are all detectable, demonstrating the trace element advantages of rice produced on volcanic ash substrate. In 2025, the total rice output reached 194,200 metric tons, the county’s GDP was 9.756 billion CNY, of which the rice output value was 524 million CNY, accounting for 5.37%. The dataset consists of data: case area boundary, physical geographic data, product characteristic data, operation and management data, socioeconomic and historical-cultural data, and photographic materials. The dataset is archived in .shp, .docx, .tif, .jpg, and .xlsx data formats, and consists of 62 data files with data size of 73.0 MB (compressed into 1 file with 20.5 MB).
