Abstract:

The core Mongolian Plateau encompasses Mongolia and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. Situated in the arid-to-semi-arid transition zone of the Eurasian continent, it is particularly sensitive to global climate change and alterations in the cryosphere. Utilizing the Google Earth Engine platform, the authors analyzed Landsat surface reflectance data from 1990 to 2024, incorporating DEM-based elevation constraints, as well as the NDSI, NDVI, and NDWI spectral indices. They employed a multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (MESMA) strategy that combines fixed non-snow endmembers with stratified snow endmembers to create a 30-m summer fractional snow cover dataset in the core Mongolian Plateau (1990-2024). The dataset comprises annual summer fractional snow cover raster data from 1990 to 2024, with a spatial resolution of 30 m. The dataset is archived in .tif format, and consists of 226 data files with data size of 4.18 GB (Compressed into 1 file with 198 MB). The dataset could provide essential data for research on cryospheric variations, hydrological process modeling, ecological environment assessment, and responses to climate change across the Mongolian Plateau.
