Abstract:
The 500-m raster dataset of fog duration in Poyang Lake Basin (2018-2025) was developed based on Channel-2 visible data from the FY-4A/B geostationary meteorological satellites with a temporal-spatial resolution of 15 min/500 m, integrated with digital elevation model (DEM) data, and in-situ visibility and precipitation measurements. Firstly, 139 diurnal fog cases over Poyang Lake Basin were identified. Secondly, fog areas were detected using the Li, et al. (2026) fog identification method. Finally, grid alignment and accumulation were performed to derive the dataset. For the period 2018-2025, the correlation coefficient, relative root mean square error, and mean relative error are 0.85, 0.29, and 0.21, respectively, indicating a significant positive correlation, high accuracy, small bias, and reasonable reliability. The dataset consists of spatial distribution raster data of daytime fog duration for three components from 2018 to 2025: (1) the 139 individual fog events; (2) the annual cumulative values; and (3) the 8 year cumulative value. It is archived in .tif format, and consists of 149 data files with data size of 1.55 GB (compressed into 1 file with 26.4 MB).
