Ulan Ul Lake, also known as Machi Lake, which means "Red mountain lake" in Mongolian, is located at the center of Tibetan Plateau. It is saltwater lake, the largest lake in Hoh Xili, Qinghai Province, China. The geo-location of the Ulan Ul Lake is between 34°39′44″N and 34°55′4″N, 90°13′11″E and 90°44′0″E. It is located at the faulted basin between the Ulan Ul Mountain and the Zulken Ula Mountains. The catchment area of the Ulan Ul Lake is 646.07 km2, and the lake shoreline is 427.48 km. There are 10 islands in the lake, among which the largest island has an area of 904356 m² and shoreline of 10.53 km; the smallest island has an area of 6677 m² and shoreline of 301 m. The Climate of the Lake is semi-arid climate region with annual average temperature of -6 ℃, annual average precipitation of 150-200 mm, and annual evaporation of about 1200 mm. The water in the lake mainly depends on surface runoff, ice and snow melting water and intermittent stream trenches. There are six surface runoff flows directly into the lake, they are Dengma River, Paoniu River, Xiaosha River, Xiongyu River, etc., among which the Dengma River is the largest surface runoff flowing into the lake; the Paoniu River is the second largest. The vegetation is mainly alpine steppe and shrub in the valley around the lake. The dataset is developed based on Google Earth images (2015) and related maps. The dataset is archived in .kmz and .shp data formats, it is consisted of 22 data files with data size of 4.67 MB (Compressed to two data files with data size of 1.68 MB).
