Abstract:
Drought Frequency and Duration Dataset of China in the Reference Period (1986-2005) and under the 1.5 ℃ Global Warming Scenario (2020-2039) was developed based on ISI-MIP, including five global climate models (GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, MIROC-ESM-CHEM and NorESM1-M). The input meteorological data are daily precipitation, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, and solar radiation at 0.5° x 0.5° from 1986 to 2005 (the reference period) and from 2020 to 2039 in RCP2.6. The standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) was used as the drought index, and the value of SPEI (-∞, -2), [-2, -1), and [-1, -0.5) were classified as extreme drought, moderate drought and mild drought, respectively. The duration of the drought was defined as the number of months during which the moderate and extreme droughts occurred divided by number of drought events. And a drought event was counted from the beginning of the month with SPEI <-0.5 to the end of the month with SPEI ≥ -0.5. The dataset includes data in two scenarios: the reference period (1986-2005) and the 1.5℃ global warming scenario (RCP2.6, 2020-2039): (1) drought frequency for the base period, 1986-2005, including frequency of mild drought, moderate drought, extreme drought; (2) duration of drought during the base period (3) drought frequency in the 1.5℃ global warming scenario, including frequency of mild drought, moderate drought and extreme drought; (4) The duration of drought under 1.5℃ global warming scenario. The dataset is archived in .xlsx and .tif data format, consists of 33 data files with data size of 1.53 MB (compressed to one single file with 0.99 MB). The analysis paper based on this dataset was published at Earth System Dynamics, No. 9, 2018.
