Abstract:

The Earth Surface System scientific data thesaurus is a standardized vocabulary that describes the terms and their basic semantic relationships within the Earth’s surface system. As a fundamental data resource, a high-quality thesaurus facilitates conceptual analysis, resource organization and retrieval, and data standardization and sharing, thereby advancing interdisciplinary research on the Earth's surface system. Based on domain-specific thesauri, authoritative domain-specific literature, domain ontologies and online resources, this study clarifies the definition and scope of the Earth's surface system. We manually constructed a high-quality thesaurus that includes seven layers of concepts: basic space, spheres, systems, subsystems, objects, elements, and attributes, encompassing a total of 3,463 terms. Additionally, it includes equivalent, hierarchical, and related relationships among the terms, totaling 4,454 relationships. The research indicates that the thesaurus performs well in terms of scale and functionality, providing data support for network construction, information alignment, resource retrieval, knowledge services, and discovery in the field of Earth Surface System Science. The dataset is archived in. xlsx format, and consists of 3 data files with data size of 1.84 MB (compressed into one file with 1.78 MB).
