Abstract:
Baffin Island is the largest island in Canada and the fifth-largest island in the world. It belongs to the Canadian territory of Nunavut, in which the capital is Iqaluit located in the Baffin Island. It is mostly located in the Arctic Circle, and is a part of Arctic Archipelago. The Baffin Island is separated from Greenland by Davis Strait and Baffin Bay at its east, separated from mainland Quebec by Hudson Strait at its south, separated from Melville Peninsula by Fury and Hecla Strait at its southwest, and from the rest of islands of the Arctic Archipelago at its west and north. The geo-location of Baffin Island is 61°51′35″N-73°51′41″N, 90°6′41″W-61°15′41″W. It goes from northwest to southeast, with the length of about 1,590 km and the width of 175-786 km. The area of the Baffin Island is 509,508.12 km² under the Albers projection, and the coastline is 37,027.79 km under the Lambert projection. The Iqaluit Airport is located adjacent to Iqaluit city and is operated by the government of Nunavut. The dataset was developed based on the Google Earth and related maps and references. The dataset is consisted of 26 data files and archived in the .kmz and .shp data formats with the data size of 156 MB (Compressed to 62.7 MB in three files).
