Abstract:
Severny Island is located between the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea in the Arctic Ocean. It is the northern part of the Novaya Zemlya Islands and is separated from the South Island (Yuzhny Island) by the Matochkin Shar Strait. Severny Island belongs to Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia Federation. The geo-location of the Severny Island is between 73°13′58″N and 77°0′5″N, 53°40′24″E and 69°5′37″E. It extents in the northeast-southwest direction, with the length of 574.91 km and the width of 18–126 km. The total area of the Severny Island is 45,776.41 km°2 (Albers Projection) and the total coastline is 3,788.58 km (Lambert Projection). The Severny Island is the continuation of the Ural Mountains in the Arctic Ocean. There are large glaciers in its north region. The Severny Island is sparsely populated and has a tundra and ice cap climate. The dataset was developed based on the Google Earth and related maps and references. The dataset is consisted of 18 data files and archived in the .kmz and .shp data formats with the data size of 8.74 MB (Compressed to 6.13 MB in two files).
