Abstract:
Shetland Islands of Scotland is located from 2°7′3″W to 0°43′25″W, 59°30′24″N to 60°51′39″N, between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The Shetland Islands is consisted of 1018 islands and islets, in which the area of each island or islet is more than 6m². The total area of the Shetlands is 1491.33km², and the coastline is 2060.13km long. There are only 23 islands in Shetland Islands which areas are bigger than 1km², including Mainland Island, Yell Island, Unst Island, Fetlar Island, Bressay Island, Whalsay Island, Muckle Roe Island, Foula Island, et al. The biggest island in the Shetland is the Mainland with the area of 960.30km² and coastline of 962.70km long. There are 944 islands (93% of total) and the area of each of them is between 100m²-1km². The dataset is developed based on the google earth images and the thematic maps of Scotland. The dataset is archived in both .kmz and .shp data formats with the compressed data size of 8.58MB.
