Abstract:

As one of the most distributed region with lakes, the Hoh Xil region in the Tibetan Plateau hosts 22 lakes, each of them are more than 100 km2. Very few freshwater and salt lakes in the Hoh Xil region, there are a lot of lagoon-brackish lakes. Based on the time series of the MODIS MOD09GA data products from 2000 to 2011, the data of lake ice phenology in the Hoh Xil region was derived by using the threshold method and the spatial-temporal dataset of the lake ice in the Hoh Xil region from 2000 to 2011 was developed. Three parts of the dataset are included: (1) statistics of ice freeze-up start (FUS), freeze-up end (FUE), break-up start (BUS), break-up end (BUE), complete ice duration (CID) and ice duration (ID) of each lake of the 22 lakes; (2) three types of spatial process of lake ice freeze-up were identified, they are from lakeshore to lakeshore, lakeshore to lake center and that of part to full lake; (3) two types of temporal changes were recognized, they are delay and advance. 891 scenes of Landsat TM/ETM imageries were used for the data validation. The result shows that the error is less than 2% using the threshold method. The discovery paper based on the dataset was published in the journal of Acta Geographica Sinica in 2015 (No. 7, Vol. 70, 2015). The data files are archived in ArcGIS Shapefile (.shp) and Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) data formats, the compressed data size is 855KB.
