Abstract：
Dataset of Vegetation coverage and drought in North China (2001-2013) (VegetationDroughtData_NorthChina_2001-2013) is consisted of yearly data of Vegetation coverage data and the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) covering North China from 2001 to 2013. The dataset covers the area of Beijing city, Tianjin City, Hebei Province, Henan Province and Shandong Province. The vegetation coverage is one of important indicators in assessment to the territorial ecosystems. Based on the 16 days composite raster data of the MODIS13Q1 (NDVI) in 250 meters resolution, the Maximum Synthesis Method was used to calculate the value of NDVI in each year, then using mixed pixel decomposition model to calculate vegetation coverage data over the years. The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) in North China from 2001-2013 was based on the calculation method of Modified Palmer drought Index and the in situ data from 100 meteorological stations of North China, integrating the information of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, sunshine duration, and precipitation, the PDSI in the 100 point based data from 2001-2013 had been developed. The discovery paper based on the dataset was published in the journal of Acta Geographica Sinica in 2015 (No. 5, Vol. 70, 2015). The dataset is archived into three data files, in which, two of them are the vegetation coverage data in .tiff format and the other one is the PDSI data in .shp format. The total size of the comprised data is 430MB.
