Abstract:

Zhangzi County, located in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, lies on the southwestern edge of the Loess Plateau’s Shangdang Basin. It features a warm temperate, semi-humid continental monsoon climate with distinct seasons and synchronized rainfall and temperature, making it one of China’s major production areas for high-quality green peppers. Soil surveys show mildly alkaline conditions (pH 7.60-8.36) with moderate moisture (1.5%-2.1%) and abundant micronutrients such as copper, zinc, and iron. Heavy metal levels are well below national limits, indicating a safe and fertile growing environment. Irrigation water quality is high, with all 15 tested parameters meeting GB 5084—2021 standards and no evidence of biological contamination. Zhangzi big green peppers are known for their uniform size, glossy green appearance, thick juicy flesh, and crisp texture. Nutritional tests show high levels of chlorophyll (0.153 mg/g), vitamin C (114.01 mg/100g), protein (1.05 g/100g), and iron (0.40 mg/100g), indicating excellent quality and market appeal. Zhangzi County had a population of 298,700. Green pepper cultivation covered over 4.67x103 ha with an annual output exceeding 60 million kg, spanning more than 300 villages. A complete industrial chain—from seedling production and cultivation to cold storage, processing, and sales—has been established. The GIES Case dataset on Zhangzi big green pepper facility agriculture in a warm temperate and semi-humid basin includes: (1) case boundary data; (2) physical geography data; (3) variety and quality attributes of Zhangzi big green pepper; and (4) cultivation practices and management. The dataset is archived in .xlsx, .shp, .tif, .jpg, .docx, and .txt data formats, and consists of 60 data files with data size of 48.3 MB (Compressed into one single file with data size of 44.5 MB).
