Abstract:

The bushfires in Victoria, Australia occurred from February 7 to March 14, 2009. The Bushfires Impacts to Terrestrial Vegetation Dataset in Victoria State, Australia in 2009 was developed based on the Landsat TM data in 30 m and MODI in 500m. Firstly, brushfire extent and fire intensity with spatial resolution of 30m by setting the threshold of the differential normalized burn ratio (dNBR) calculated by the reflectance of the near infrared band and mid-infrared band of the Landsat TM data before and after bushfires (February 14, 2008, March 1, 2008, March 10, 2008, March 27, 2009, March 29, 2009, April 5, 2009 April 21, 2009); then the spatial anomaly data with spatial resolution was 0.05° (about 5 km) of leaf area index (LAI) and the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) data in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 used the annual data were synthesized by the maximum the monthly data, and the monthly data were synthesized by the averaging the 8-day data.; meanwhile, the changes of the 8-day and annual LAI and FAPAR data for sampling burned area with low and high burn intensity and unburned area based on grading fire intensity data and Landsat TM image were calculated; and finally, the MODIS land cover product (MCD12Q1) of burned area and combined the types of land cover were identified into 7 categories: forest, shrub lands, grasslands, permanent wetlands, croplands, urban and built – up, cropland/natural vegetation mosaic, then the proportions of these land cover types were calculated separately. The datasets includes: (1) The vector data of burned area in Victoria in 2009; (2) The spatial data of fire intensity in burned area in Victoria in 2009; (3) The spatial dataset of anomalies of LAI/FAPAR of burned area and its surrounding area in Victoria in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015; (4) The spatial location data of the sampling data of burned area with low, high fire intensity and unburned area, and statistical datasets of the annual/8-day LAI/FAPAR of these area in Victoria from 2000 to 2013; (5) The spatial datasets of land cover in burned area in Victoria after forest fire in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and statistical data of the area proportion of each land cover type from 2000 to 2013. The datasets are archived in .tif, .shp, and .xlsx data formats, the dataset is consisted of 71 data files with a data size of 431 MB. All of these data files are compressed in to one data file package with the data size of 9.30 MB.
