Aridity Variation Dataset on Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi Province, China (1981 – 2012)

Abstract:

Aridity is an indicator of regional drought. Focus on the Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi Province, we calculated the evapotranspiration by Penman Monteith Equation, then using the ratio of evapotranspiration to precipitation as aridity, based on the data of 11 stations provided by China Meteorological Data Service Center (including precipitation, temperature, sunshine duration hours, wind speed and relative humidity, etc., and in these 11 stations, Dingbian had the data during 1989-2012, Tongchuan 1981-1989, Yaoxian 2000-2012, the rest had all the data from 1981-2012.). Then we analyzed the trend of the aridity in 1981-2011, 1981-1999, 2000-2011 with Mann-Kendall. The results indicated that the aridity in this region was changed between 1 and 2.77. The aridity was increased by 0.88% per year during 1981-2012. The dataset includes: (1) Boundary of study area; (2) Average aridity and its trend from 1981 to 2012 (spatial resolution: 500 m), which includes: a) the average aridity and the contour data from 1981 to 2012; b) the trend of aridity and the contour data at the stations during the three periods of 1981-2012, 1981-1999, and 2000-2012;. c) the relative change rate of aridity at stations and in the study area during the three periods of 1981-2012, 1981-1999, and 2000-2012. (3) average precipitation spatial distribution data and the contour data from 1981 to 2012 in 500 m pixels; and (4) average precipitation and aridity at each stations. The dataset is archived in .shp, .tif, and .adf formats, which were composed of 130 data files with the data size of 18.1 MB (compressed to 4.21 MB). The analysis paper based on this dataset was published at the Journal of Geographical Sciences Vol. 25, No. 3, 2015.
