Abstract：
Environmental sustainability represents a prerequisite and basis for the sustainable development of human society. The environment sustainability in 30 countries were analyzed and assessed, including Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. Using environmental footprints and planetary boundaries that were recently proposed as two novel concepts, the authors applied the range method and distance-to-target method to the normalization and weighting of carbon, water and land deficits for 30 major countries in the world. The national environmental sustainability pressure index was calculated and then applied to a cluster analysis where the 30 countries were classified into four categories, namely strong environmental sustainability, weak environmental sustainability, weak environmental unsustainability, and strong environmental unsustainability. The dataset of environmental sustainability of countries includes: (1) normalized carbon, water and land deficits of the 30 countries; (2) the environmental sustainability pressure index and its composition of the 30 countries; and (3) the international pattern of environmental sustainability. The analysis paper based on the dataset has been published in the Journal of Natural Resources, Issue 4, Vol. 30, 2015. The dataset is archived in .xslx format with the data size of 21.4 KB.
