Dataset of Fruit Types and Seed Dispersal Modes of Plants in Five Communities in Shilin Geopark, Yunnan, China

Abstract:

The sample plots of 100 m x 100 m in five communities were set in Shilin Geopark from August to September in 2003, they are Form. Cyclobalanopsis glaucoides forest (S1), Form. Neolitsea homilantha secondary forest (S2), Form. Cyclobalanopsis glaucoides shrubland (S3), Form. Spiraea martini – Heteropogon contortus shrub tussock (S4) and Form. Pinus yunnanensis plantation (S5). Based on the species list of different communities in situ survey, the fruit types of plants were determined according to the species’ description in Flora of China. The seed dispersal modes were determined based on the published literatures, the Kew Seed Information Database and the fruit and seed morphological traits. Then the dataset of fruit types and seed dispersal modes of plants in five communities in Shilin Geopark, Yunan, China was developed. The result shows that there are 16 fruit types (include spore) among 282 vascular plant species. Achenes (17.02%), capsules (16.67%), berries (14.18%) and drupes (12.41%) were the most common fruit types in Shilin Geopark. The main seed dispersal mode of Shilin was zoochory (47.87%) and anemochorous (33.69%), respectively. The dataset includes: (1) the general information of the sample sites; (2) fruit types and seed dispersal modes of plants in different communities in Shilin Geopark, Yunnan, China. The dataset is archived in .xlsx, .shp and .kmz data format, consists of 9 data files with data size of 45.1 KB (compressed to 41.3 KB in two files). The analysis paper based on this dataset was published at the Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology, Vol.42, No.6, 2018.
