Abstract:

China has become the country with the largest number of overweight and obese people globally. With the deepening of population aging, the problem of overweight and obesity has become increasingly severe among middle-aged and elderly adults. The spatial dataset of overweight and obesity among middle-aged and elderly adults in China (2011, 2015) was developed based on the survey data on height, weight, and waist circumference from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2011 and 2015. The dataset includes: (1) the average body mass index (BMI), average waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), overweight prevalence rate, and obesity prevalence rate in 124 prefecture-level cities of China for the years 2011 and 2015; (2) statistics of the BMI, WHtR, overweight prevalence rate, and obesity prevalence rate; (3) the appendix data for calculation. The dataset is archived in .shp and .xlsx formats, and consists of 9 data files with data size of 32.9 MB (compressed into one single file with 21.4 MB).
