Abstract：

The regional development density model by three dimensions (RDD3D) (development the intensity, development compactness, and the development level evaluation) for evaluating regional development density was used for the Perl River Delta Megalopolis region studies. Integrating the Landsat TM/HJ-1A remote sensing imagery, DMSP/OLS night-time lighting image data of 1998, 2006 and 2012 and the county-level economic output data of the Pearl River Delta Megalopolis (PRDM) of China and the RDD3D model, the regional development density by three dimensions dataset in Pearl River Delta megalopolis (1998, 2006, 2012）was developed. The dataset is consisted of three parts: (1) geographic boundary data of the study area. (2) 3D regional development density on township level in 1998, 2006 and 2012: a. spatial data of development intensity; b. spatial data of development compactness; c. spatial data of economic intensity and (3) non-agricultural GDP spatial data at 1 km resolution. The data result indicates that from 1998 to 2012, the urban area in the PRDM region expanded rapidly: the development intensity was increased from 8.08% to 16.93%, and the economic intensity was increased from 191 million Yuan/km² to 594 million Yuan/km², but the development compactness declined from 0.0082 to 0.0065. The dataset is archived in .shp, .tif data formats with data size of 19.9 MB (compressed to one single file in 10.8 MB). The analysis paper based on the dataset was published at the journal of Tropical Geography, Vol. 37, No. 1, 2017.
