Abstract:
The experimental dataset on carbon and nitrogen release during litter decomposition and its responses to nitrogen addition was obtained by using ten-year-old P. koraiensis and Q. mongolica seedlings as samples which were selected and transplanted to flowerpot in Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve, Jilin Province, China (41 °23'N, 127 °55'E). The seedlings were fertilized with 15N labeled NH4NO3 solution and the 15N-enriched leaves and twigs were collected. Finally, the litter was put into the decomposition box and placed on the soil surface in forest stand for litter decomposition. The start time of decomposition was May 2015. Two nitrogen addition levels (0, 5 g N m-2 yr-1) were set up in the experiment, and there were four treatments at each level, including P. koraiensis needles, P. koraiensis twigs, Q. mongolica leaves and Q. mongolica twigs, with 4 repeats in each treatment. The carbon and nitrogen release from litter was monitored for more than two years to obtain the dataset. The dataset includes three tables: (1) effect of nitrogen addition on carbon and nitrogen processes during litter decomposition; (2) effects of nitrogen addition on litter chemical properties during litter decomposition; and (3) effects of nitrogen addition on microbial carbon and nitrogen in decayed litter. The dataset is archived in one data file (.xlsx) with data size of 51 KB.
