Abstract:

Wetar Island is located in the southern part of the Banda Sea, western of the Pacific Ocean. It is 48.97 km separated from Timor Island by the Wetar Strait in its south, and 75.82 km from the Alor Islands in the west. Its geo-location is between 8°0'59″S and 7°33'24″S, 125°47'20″E and 126°50'33″E. The Wetar Island belongs to Maluku Province of Indonesia. The climate is hot and moist, with heavy rainfall. The center town of the island is Masapun on the southern coast. The total area of the Wetar Island calculated based on Albers projection is 2615.00 km², and the coastline length calculated based on Lambert projection is 354.53 km. The dataset is developed based on the Global Multiple Scale Shorelines Dataset based on Google Earth images (2015), combined with maps of Indonesia. The dataset is archived in .kmz and .shp data formats, and consists of 25 data files with data size of 788 KB (compressed to three data files with 247 KB).
