Abstract:

The Downward Shortwave Radiation (DSR) dataset in China-Asean with daily and 5 km spatial resolution (MuSyQ-DSR-5km-2013) were developed based on the images from MTSAT2 and TERRA/MODIS. The data product was generated following the three steps. First of all, each of pixels was identified to be either the clear or cloudy sky. For doing so, the CDFS (Cloud Depiction and Forecast System) model was used in identifying temporal differencing, dynamic thresholding, and spectral discrimination. In modeling the DSR in clear or cloudy sky, the aerosol optical depth (AOD) and total precipitation water were inversed for clear sky and the Cloud optical thickness (COT) was inversed for cloudy sky. The look-up tables (LUT) for DSR and atmospheric conditions under clear sky and cloudy sky were generated separately based on the atmospheric radiative transfer model. The daily DSR dataset was validated based on the in situ data from Meteorological Observation Stations of China in 2013. The correlation coefficient between estimated daily DSR and the observations was 0.93, with bias error of 10.13 W/m2 (5.86%) and RMSE of 35.83 W/m2 (20.72%). The correlation coefficient between estimated daily DSR and the observations was 0.91 in Tibetan Plateau, with bias error of 3.20 W/m2 (1.53%) and RMSE of 36.56 W/m2 (17.50%).This dataset can be used as a primary input data for ecological environment change, climate models, hydrological model, and plant growth change analysis. The temporal resolution of the DSR in China-Asean is daily and the spatial resolution is 5 km from Jan 1st to Dec 31th of 2013 (in which 8 days data were missed). The scale factor of the product is 0.1 and the unit is W/m2. The data was stored in TIFF format, and the data size of the compressed file is 386MB.Browse
