Abstract：
The National Historical and Cultural City refers to the city with particularly rich preservation of cultural relics and has great historical and cultural value significance. Based on the list of three batches of National Historical and Cultural Cities published by State Council of P. R. China in 1982, 1986 and 1994 and the list of subsequent added historical and cultural cities. As of 2023, there are 142 National Historical and Cultural Cities in China. Using Google Map, the authors located each of them to obtain the spatial distribution dataset. The dataset includes geo-located historical cities together with attribute information of each city, such as city name, batch published, prefecture level city name, prefecture level city category, provincial administrative region name and provincial administrative region category. The dataset is archived in .shp and .xlsx formats, and composed of 9 data files with data size of 178 KB (Compressed into 1 file, 26.7 KB).
