Abstract:
We collected 107 surface soil samples and 105 herbivore fecal samples in Arid, Semi-arid and Alpine Regions of China between 2014 and 2015, in areas unaffected by irrigation and significant agricultural activities. At the Key Laboratory of Western China's Environmental Systems, Ministry of Education, Lanzhou University, total organic carbon (δ13CTOC) of 107 bulk surface soil samples, δ13C of 107 bulk plant remains (δ13CPL), 97 bulk sheep fecal samples (δ13CSD), 18 bulk yak fecal samples (δ13CYD), α-cellulose samples extracted from 107 surface soil plant remains (δ13CPL-cell), 97 sheep fecal α-cellulose samples (δ13CSD-cell), and 18 yak fecal α-cellulose samples (δ13CYD-cell) were measured using an elemental analyzer (Flash EA 1112) coupled with an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (Finnigan MAT-253). The dataset includes: (1) the spatial distribution of 107 sample sites; (2) δ13C values of 107 surface soils and 105 herbivore fecal samples. Two attached datasets including δ13C values of modern plants worldwide from Rao, et al., 2017, and δ13C values of global C4 plants from Rao, et al., 2017 as the attached references. The dataset is archived in .shp and .xlsx formats, consisting of nine data files with total size of 255 KB (compressed to one file with 242 KB). A research paper based on this dataset was published in Acta Geographica Sinica, Vol. 79, No. 9, 2024.
