Abstract:

Glacial Lakes are distributed in Himalaya Mountains widely. Glacial lake changes record the climate change in this special region. The Recoding Dataset on Time Series of Glacial Lakes in Himalaya, China (1970s – 2010) covers all area of Himalaya Mountains in China side. According to the Glacial Recording Standard of China, 39 watersheds had been identified based on the SRTM and Landsat images. Together with the Glacial Recording and Statistics of China, based on the air photos in 1970s, Landsat TM/ETM images in 1990, 2000, 2010 and the in situ data by filed surveying, the time series of glacial lake distribution data in 1971s, 1991, 2000, 2010 were developed. The dataset including the following data: (1) 39 watershed boundaries data of Himalayas, China; (2) 1749 glacial lakes distribution GIS data in 1970s; (3) 1670 glacial lakes distribution GIS data in 1990; (4) 1644 glacial lake distribution GIS data in 2000; (5) 1744 glacial lake distribution GIS data in 2010; and (6) statistics of the time series of glacial lake changes in Himalaya, China. The dataset is archived in .shp, .xls, and .kmz formats with the data size of 7.30MB. The analysis paper was published in the Journal of Natural Resources, No. 2, Vol.30, 2015.
