Abstract:

The typical drought event occurred from June 2009 to April 2010 in the Southwest of China. In order to calculate the drought degree and its impacts on vegetation, the SPEI (Standard Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index); LAI (Leaf Area Index) anomalies and FAPAR (Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation) anomalies were used for the Drought Degree and Its Impacts on Vegetation Dataset development. The dataset includes: (1) the boundary data of the Southwest China; (2) the drought severity index based on SPEI from June 2009 to April 2010 in the region; (3) the monthly drought degree data from June 2009 to April 2010 in the region; (4) the LAI anomalies from June 2009 to April 2010 in the region and the accumulations of LAI anomalies during this periods; (5) the FAPAR anomalies from June 2009 to April 2010 in the region and the accumulations of FAPAR anomalies during this periods. The data results show that: the area where LAI anomalies and FAPAR anomalies are less than 0 is also the area experienced severe drought. And compared with the forests, the LAI anomalies and FAPAR anomalies of grasslands are much smaller, suggesting that the response of different vegetation to the drought is also different. The data spatial resolution is 0.01°. The dataset is achieved in .tif and .shp data formats with the compressed data size of 81.9MB.
