The maize phenology dataset of China (1981 - 2010) was developed based on the long- term phenology observation data from 114 agro-meteorological stations from 1981-2010 in the maize growing areas of China. Using trend analysis and accumulated temperature calculation methods, the temporal and spatial differentiation characteristics of 8 consecutive phenology periods and the corresponding phenological stages length were quantitatively analyzed. The dataset includes (1) Trends of climate factors in the whole growth period of maize in different regions; (2) Trends of phenology / growing stages length of maize in different regions of China from 1981 to 2010; (3) Length and standard deviation of three growing stages of maize in different planting types from 1981 to 2010; (4) Spatial distribution of climate factors trends in the whole growth period of maize in China from 1981 to 2010; (5) Spatial distribution of maize phenology trends in China from 1981 to 2010. The dataset is archived in .shp and .xlsx data formats and consists of 17 data files with data size of 143 KB (compressed to 1 file, 36.3 KB). The analysis paper based to this data was published in the journal of Acta Geographica Sinica, Vol. 73, No. 5, 2018.
