Abstract：
To reveal the evolutionary characteristics of China's regional innovation capability, 31 provinces of China was taken as study area. Based on the statistical data from China Statistical Yearbook on Science and Technology, China Statistical Yearbook from 2004 to 2011, a regional innovation input and output index system was built from the perspective of system input and output. The method of regional integrated Innovation Index in the European Innovation Index was used, replacing the index data of EU countries with the value of provinces. The regional innovation efficiency was calculated to be the ratio of regional innovation output index to innovation input index. Regional innovation performance index was half of the sum of regional innovation output index and regional innovation efficiency. The Gini coefficient was used to evaluate the regional differences in innovation performance. Finally, the regional innovation performance index dataset was got in the mainland of China from 2004 to 2011. The dataset include, (1) Regional innovation input index, output index and innovation performance index of China in 2004, 2008 and 2011. (2) Gini coefficient of regional innovation in China in 2004-2011. This dataset was archived in .xlsx data format with the data size of 28KB. The analysis paper has been published in the journal of Scientia Geographica Sinica, No. 1, Vol. 36, 2016.
