Abstract:

The quality of Zezhou Millet - a geographical indication production designated by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is mainly determined by two natural characteristics of its origin: one is the favorable sunshine and temperature in the hilly area of 35°N-36°N zone; and the other is the red clay of the Loess Plateau. The red clay of the Loess Plateau is an old soil exposed after the top loess was eroded. This red clay is difficult to cultivate because of its high clay content, which has been rated as poor soil by soil scientists. However, after long-term water and soil conservation, the cultivated red clay soil not only become productive, but also yield such excellent product as Zezhou Millet. The Zezhou Millet (Danchuan Millet) Gaodu Red Clay Case covers 14 villages in the east of Gaodu Town, Zezhou county. In 2021, the sowing area of millet is 410 ha, and the yield of millet is 4212.9 tons. The sowing area and yield account for 61.56% and 82.25% of Zezhou county, respectively. This case dataset consists of five parts: (1) case area boundary data; (2) geographic environment data; (3) millet chemicals; (4) basic socio-economic, historical and cultural data; and (5) photos. The dataset is archived in .shp, tiff,. xls, and .doc data format, and consists of 87 data files with data size of 55.9 MB (Compressed into one single file with 54.7 MB).Browse
