Abstract:

Warm-sector heavy rainfall was defined as heavy rainfall that occurred in the places about 200-300 km from the surface above. Heavy Rainfall Classification Dataset in Guangdong, Guangxi and the Surrounding Areas (1982-2015) was hour based precipitation data during the flood season of 1982-2012 (20-20 o’clock, Beijing time) provided by the National Information Center. The rotated Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) method was used to develop the dataset covering the 124 stations in Guangdong, Guangxi Province and the surrounding areas. The dataset includes: (1) geolocation of the selected 124 stations; (2) statistical data of 177 warm-sector rainfall events: year and month of occurrence, start time, end time, duration, total precipitation, and central location of the precipitation; (3) statistics of warm-sector heavy rainfall events according to the year and month of occurrence, including time in start, time in end and duration of raining; (4) stations of the center of precipitation, and the frequency and amount of precipitation in these stations; (5) list of the four types of warm rainfall events according to the weather circulation; (6) monthly variation and geographic distribution of four types of warm-sector rainfall events. The dataset is consisted of two data files and archived in .txt and .xls formats, with the data size of 139 KB (compressed to 23.5 KB in one file). The analysis results related to the dataset was published in Chinese Journal of Atmospheric Sciences, Vol. 43, No. 1, 2019.
