Abstract:

The authors used historical literature and the relationship between the settlement and cropland area to estimate the cropland area for Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. Then, utilized the cropland gridded allocation method based on settlement relics to reconstruct the dataset of 5′x5′ cropland cover. The results objectively and accurately depicted the fundamental transformation process of land use from half farming and half animal husbandry to animal husbandry in the study area from Liao Dynasty to Ming Dynasty. The dataset included a tabular data and 2 spatial data. The tabular data is the cropland area and number of settlements in Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, archived in .xlsx data format. The spatial data include: (1) the boundary data of the eastern part of northern China’s agro-pastoral ecotone; (2) the 5′x5′ cropland cover data at 4 periods during Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. The spatial data is archived in .shp data format. The datasets consists of 36 data files with data size of 2.26 MB (Compressed into one single file with 242 KB).Browse
