Abstract:

Based on the definition of heavy rainfall (more than or equal to 50 mm in 24 hours) put forward by China Meteorological Administration (CMA), heavy rainfall only last one day is defined as short duration heavy rainfall, while it’s last for more than two days is defined as long duration heavy rainfall. The short and long duration heavy rainfall dataset of China (1961-2015) was developed based on the daily rainfall data from 659 meteorological stations from 7 ecosystem regions of China from 1961 to 2015. The data result indicated that the annual rainfall, annual heavy rainfall and short duration heavy rainfall was in “increasing-decreasing-increasing” style from the southeast coastal to northwest inland in China from 1961 to 2015, and the meteorological stations with increasing trend were predominant. Meanwhile, long duration heavy rainfall was in “increasing-decreasing” style in spatial pattern, and meteorological stations with decreasing trend were predominant. The dataset includes two parts: (1) Boundary data of seven ecosystem regions of China; (2) Trend of long and short duration heavy rainfall on 659 stations of China during 1961-2015. The dataset was archived in .shp, .xlsx data format with data size of 3.08 MB in 9 data files (Compressed to one .rar file with 1.89 MB). The analysis paper based on this dataset was published at the journal of Arid Land Geography, Vol. 40, No. 2, 2017.
