The island, the biggest one in South Korea, is bordered the Korean peninsula to the north, Japan to the east, China to the west. Jeju Island is governed by the Jeju Province, which is the smallest province in South Korea. Two cities are included in the Jeju Province, they are the Jeju city located at northern part and the Seogwipo city located at the southern part. Based on the Digital Global images from the Google Earth 2015, the coastline data of the Jeju Islands is developed. The data shows a roughly oval shape with an area of 1,850.01 km2 and the length of the coast lines is 333.19 km. The maximum length of Jeju Island is 33km from north to south and its maximum width is 73 km from east to west. The average altitude of Jeju Island is about 280m and Mt. Halla, which rises 1,932 m (according to the ASTER GDEM data) above sea level, is the highest peak in south Korea. Jeju island is located in the subtropical Marine climate, mild in the winter, the temperature rarely below 0 ℃ There are 39 islands and giant stones surrounding the Jeju island, four of them are bigger than 1km2 in area. In which, the Udo Island is the biggest one with an area of 6.57km2 and 18.59km long of coastline. The second one is the Hachujado (Lower Chuja) with an area of 4.68km2 and 14.81km long of the coastline. The third is the Sangchujado (Upper Chuja) with 1.67km2 and 9.65km. the Gapado island is the fourth, located at the southwest of Jeju Island with an area of 1.19 km2 and 6.56km long of the coastline.
