Abstract:
The Rat Islands are a volcanic group of islands in the Aleutian Islands in southwest Alaska, with the Near Islands group to its west, and Amchitka Pass and the Andreanof Islands group to its east, at about 177°11′52″E to 179°46′24″E, 51°20′54″N to 52°8′10″N. The larger islands in the group are, from west to east, Kiska, Little Kiska, Segula, Khvostof, Davidof, Little Sitkin, Amchitka, and Semisopochnoi. There are total of 10 islands with area great than 1km2. The island with the largest area 319.87km2 is Amchitka Island, and it has the longest coastline 304.12km. The total land area of the Rat Islands is 974.18km2 and the total coastline is 873.7km. The dataset was developed based on integration among the Google Earth images and related maps and records. The dataset is archived in the .shp and .kmz formats with the compressed data size of 3.94MB.
