Abstract:
The Kalimantan Island, referring to Borneo, is located at the middle of Malay archipelago from 108o50'26〞E to 119o16'10〞E and 4o10'41〞S to 7o2'19〞N. It is the third-largest island of the world. Based on the coastline data of the Kalimantan Island, extracted from Google Earth images, the following data has been calculated: the area of the island is 732020.12km2 the coastline is 10351.18km long. It is bordered by Malay Peninsula and Sumatra to the west, Java to the south, Sulawesi to the east, Philippine islands to the north east, South China Sea to the north and northwest. The Kalimantan Island is mountainous and largely covered in dense rain forest. The peak of the island is the Mount Kinabalu. Straddling the equator, the Kalimantan Island is subject to an intense tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the monsoon between October and March and a relatively drier, calmer period of summer for the rest of the year. Three countries are located at the island, Malaysia, Brunei in the north and Indonesia in the south.
