Abstract:
Precipitation on the Tibetan Plateau showed a gradual increasing trend from 1979 to 2013, especially in the central-western region. Although precipitation observation data is scarce in this region, simulating data, satellite data, and indirect observational evidence (such as lake area and forest greening) all indicate that the increase in precipitation is real. The authors identified area with significant precipitation increases through precipitation trend analysis, and then traced the moisture sources for precipitation in this region using numerical modeling. The model used ERA-Interim reanalysis data, CMA precipitation, and GLDAS evaporation as data inputs, and set up contrast experiments for validation. This ultimately generated annual and monsoon season monthly moisture source data for the region with increased precipitation on the plateau, forming the simulated dataset of moisture sources for increased precipitation area in the Tibetan Plateau (1979-2013). The dataset includes: (1) boundary data of the study area (the region with marked increased precipitation on the plateau); (2) annual and monsoon season monthly moisture source data for the study area, with a spatial resolution of 1.5°x1.5° (3) precipitation data for the study area from 1979 to 2013, including annual and monsoon season monthly data. The dataset is archived in .shp, .nc, and .xlsx formats, and consists of 13 data files with data size of 46.5 MB (compressed into one file with 16.9 MB). The research findings based on the dataset was published in Journal of Climate, Vol. 30, 2017.
