Abstract:
Every year during the melting period, a large scale and complex supraglacial river networks form on the surface of the northwest Greenland ice sheet, significantly affecting the mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet. The authors extract the basin boundary (3412 km2) and basin outlet using ArcticDEM digital elevation model and extract the supraglacial and proglacial rivers using 10 m Sentinel-2 images by employing the method which characterizes on the northwest Greenland ice sheet rivers according to the Gaussian-like brightness cross sections and longitudinal continuity. The dataset includes: (1) the basin boundary and basin outlet; (2) the spatial distribution of the supraglacial river networks; (3) the spatial distribution of the proglacial river near the basin outlet; (4) the satellite-derived supraglacial meltwater area fraction; (5) the satellite-derived proglacial river width; (6) the surface runoff calculated from RCM(MAR). The dataset consists of 139 files with files size of 7.49 MB (compressed to 1 file, 2.68 MB) and stores in .kmz、.shp、.tif and .xlsx formats. The analysis based on this dataset has been published in CHINESE JOURNAL OF POLAR RESEARCH, volume 32, Number 3, 2020.
