Abstract:
Novaya Zemlya, the northeast to southwest islands, is located in the Arctic ocean, its geolocation is 51°25′54″E-69°5′37″E,70°26′33″N-77°0′42″N. Novaya Zemlya is around 100 km wide and 600 km long. There are 458 islands in the Novaya Zemlya (the smallest one is 68.86 m²), including two major ones, the Severny Island and the Yuzhny Island. The Severy Island is the biggest one with the area of 45,776.41 km², its coastline is 3,529.65km long. However, the Yuzhny Island hosts the longest coastline with 3,800.98 km, and its area is 32,765.38 km². A narrow Matochkin Strait in 80 km long and only 500-2000 m wide separates them. Besides, a series of small islands are included in Novaya Zemlya, such as the Mezhdusharsky Island and many small ones. The glaciers and the Severny Island ice cap cover the most area of the Severny Island. In geology, the Norvaya Zemulya is northern extension of the Ural Mountains, although the Kara strait separates them. A series of fjords are distributed in the Novaya Zemlya, especially in the middle part the islands. The total coastline of the Islands is 9,093.32 km. The dataset is developed based on the Google Earth images and the referenced maps. The dataset is archived in .kmz and .shp data format with the compressed data size of 18.10 MB.
