Abstract:

The VIIRS/DNB nighttime light (NTL) data are easily subjected to stray light, resulting in a region of distorted pixels in the mid and high latitude areas, especially in summer time from May to August. Based on the cubic Hermite model, the distorted and missing value pixels of the VIIRS/DNB NTL data released by NOAA were re-constructed. This dataset is archived in .tif data format, consists of monthly and yearly data products, temporal spans 2013-2018. Its spatial resolution is 15 arc sec and the data size is 292 MB in 120 data files (Compressed to one file with 29.4 MB). This dataset does not represent temporal light such as fires or vehicle lights, thereby this dataset is mainly suitable for socio-economic researches, but not for temporal light analysis. The analysis paper based on this dataset was published in the journal of Progress in Geography, Vol. 38, No. 1, 2019.
