Reconstruction Dataset of Cropland Change in Five Central Asian Countries over the Last Millennium (1000-2000)

The study area covers five Central Asian countries, they are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. The total area of cropland in the five countries over the last millennium was stimulated based on the historical records. The spatial resolution data of 5′x5′ was developed using a gridded allocation algorithm. The result shows: (1) the change of cropland area in Central Asia between 1000 and 2000 had three phases of "steady with fluctuations - growth - decline"; (2) the cropland is mainly distributed in oases along rivers, with a tendency to expand outward over time; and (3) after 1850, the increase of cropland area mainly occurred in the northern part of Kazakhstan. This dataset includes the following reconstrution data in the study area: (1) statistics of total cropland area during 1000-2000; (2) total cropland area in each country during 1928-2000; (3) spatial cropland fraction in 1000, 1200, 1400, 1500, 1750, 1850, 1928, 2000. The dataset is archived in .xlsx and .img data formats, and consists of 27 data files with data size of 8.61 MB (Compressed into one single file with 422 KB).Browse
